Sphagnum Moss Exporter in Puerto Montt, Chile
Since 2006, we have been dedicated to the commercialization of Sphagnum Moss (also known in Chile as musgo pompón), which involves the harvest, acquisition, drying and selection of sphagnum moss harvested from the wetlands of the Puerto Montt area and surroundings, including Isla de Chiloé, Los Lagos Region, through the Magallanes Region.
We then commercialize it to national and international markets, produced in different formats, grades and bale types according to each client's requirements.
"We are the only plant that integrally manages the entire production process — from harvesting to final packaging — guaranteeing quality, cleanliness, and optimal moisture levels in every bale."

Everything About Chilean Sphagnum Moss
The most common questions from nurseries, importers and distributors buying moss from Chile.
Sphagnum Moss is a plant that grows in the wetlands and bogs of southern Chile and, once dried, can absorb up to twenty times its own weight in water. That is why it is used as a natural substrate for growing orchids, in nurseries, ornamental plants, vertical gardens, terrariums and any crop that needs high moisture retention and good root aeration.
Exportadora OSJP Musgos SPA sells Sphagnum Moss directly from its plant at Carretera a Pargua km 12, Puerto Montt, Los Lagos Region, Chile. As direct producers and exporters we supply both the domestic and international markets without intermediaries. You can request a quote from the contact page or by writing to contacto@osjpmusgos.com.
Yes. In Chile, Sphagnum Moss is popularly known as musgo pompón because of the rounded shape of its heads. It is the same species, Sphagnum magellanicum, harvested in the wetlands of Puerto Montt, Chiloé and Patagonia.
We work with six grades: 5 Stars, 5 Stars Yellow, 3 Stars, Mix 3 to 5 Stars, Red Thick and Ground Moss. Classification is done manually and is based on fiber length (from finely ground to over 12 cm), maximum impurity percentage (between 2% and 5%) and coloration: white, pink, golden yellow, brown or dark red.
We work mainly with export volumes by container, with the moss compressed and packed into bales according to the weight and dimensions each client requires. Send us the moss grade, required volume and destination country and we will send you a quote.
For orchids, long and clean fibers are recommended because they hold moisture without compacting the roots. Our 5 Stars and 5 Stars Yellow grades, with fiber over 12 cm and impurity under 2%, are the most used by orchid growers. The 3 Stars grade is an excellent value alternative for larger-scale growing.
Yes. We apply selective harvesting, respecting the natural regeneration cycles of moss in the Patagonian wetlands and without using pesticides or chemicals at any stage. Our planning ensures responsible and stable production for at least the next 10 years.
